Every year we replace my twin sisters above ground pool at the DanielDivaDiggs for the Little Pawners, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney.  The twins love having a pool and don’t care that it’s not like fancy like my old one left behind when we sold our oversized home and I used a portion of the money to start four businesses.  The only thing I miss about that house was the pool and, the great fun we had year round since my husband was smart enough to have a heater installed.

It gets pretty hot in Texas and amazingly, some rednecks have turned even trash cans into swimming holes out here.  My twin sister, Cindy calls herself a hillbilly because “when you don’t have a lot of money, you’ve got to figure it out!”

Wortham Home In Lakeside We Sold Three Years Ago

Our old home was pretty “fancy” with granite counter tops and all the “latest” appliances.  But, my only child moved out and with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths to match our oversized taxes and mortgage- I was ready for a change!  Empty nesting for me made our old house feel like a hotel and although my husband isn’t “crazy” about our unique old mansion styled home that I found (empty for three years), I love the fact that there is enough room for sleepovers, the leaded glass windows and chandeliers, the closets with built in shoe shelves and the mirrored walls with storage in every room.  The only problem for me is no pool? but, we visit water parks in the summer and Cindy always has her “yearly pool” as a back up.

Cindy Daniel and Wendy Wortham- The Pawning Planners

This year we have a “new plan” to build a homemade “Pallet Pool” ourselves since Cindy’s yearly pool purchase often runs about $600 we’ve decided to hit a lick by building it ourselves and use the money left over for Makenna’s braces.  Will it work?  I’m not sure but Cindy has pulled some pretty crafty quick fixes at the DanielDivaDiggs so we are willing to give it a shot.

The “North Forty” at Cindy’s house gives us plenty of room to spread out and, some folks have even used bales of hay to create a backyard oasis.  We found some pretty interesting ideas online that even included the back of a pick up truck for a pool.

Will we do anything for our Little Pawners?  Whatever we can to give them a good time and they love their trampoline which has been a fixture at my sisters house for years.  That was one of our best investments!

Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney

As we roll into Spring with Summer right around the corner, my sister reminds me that we have nothing to lose by trying to build it ourselves.  She’s bungee corded the fence over and over and zip ties her awnings Cindy Daniel On Home Repairs details how my twin sister uses her HillbillyHowTo ideas to effectively “figure it out!”

At Aunt Shirley’s Farm In Gordon- Wendy Wortham & Cindy Daniel with our cousin Cynthia Dickson

Texas summers have many of us seeking shelter from the sun and we still miss my Aunt Shirley’s pool that was taken down due to a hole that we would’ve duck taped and kept but, I’m willing to jump in and try to help Cindy with her latest “home project” because that’s what twins do- we stick together and use our compensating skills to overcome any issue “thrown out way.”

Cindy’s most popular blog was “Redneck Reality” because folks can relate to her issues of having a husband that takes no interest in helping around the house.  Steve Daniel has walked by the broken deck for years and isn’t about to go fix it ten years after a tree fell on it. Steve wears blinders to home projects because he’s a good time Charlie when he’s home and prefers to play with the twins he calls “the littles.”  Picking them up from school and visiting the park or McDonalds, Steve and my husband love having fun with the Little Pawners!

Will we be saavy enough to build our own pool?  Well, there is only one way to find out…
